Memorial Garden

A barren corner of this church property was to be transformed into a tribute to a recently passed parishioner.  The church member had a passion for gardening, and that sentiment was to be conveyed in the completed design.  The project and site presented some challenges, wet soil and dense shade among them, but also the fact that once completed the garden was going to receive little attention.  Chosen plants had to be carefree, and able to withstand periods of drought.  The design also intended to communicate the church member's affinity for an informal garden style, while working with the existing site and structure of the churche's architecture.

Tall woody shrubs were placed to scale down the large walls, provide structure during winter, and add a backdrop to the perennials placed in the garden.  The perennials provide most of the interest during summer.  A boxwood hedge reinforces the architecture of the church and will help transition the garden into the existing plantings.
