Deerfield Residence

The homeowners sought to greatly expand their backyard living area and add separate spaces for lounging, dining, and socializing.  The sizable lot the home resides on allows for a large expansion and for the patio to be pushed out from the home.  By constructing the spaces away from the home a planting buffer can be placed between the home and patio, scaling down the two-story house.  The final solution produced a patio with room for eating, grilling, lounging, and enjoying a fire, all separate spaces but strategically linked.  An angular design theme has been employed to take advantage of better sight lines and to work better with natural light.  Added walls help define the spaces, support light fixtures, and serve as overflow seating.  Plantings complete the space and will provide afternoon shade.
