Palatine Home

Overgrown shrubs and a few invasive plants were detracting from this home’s aesthetic value.  The ranch home has a country feel to it that the homeowner has embraced; yard revisions will affirm that style.  This project will be dealt with in phases, addressing the front first. Phase one modifications will be minimal but significant.  Much of the mature woody vegetation will remain and provide a solid backdrop to newly planted perennials.  An expanded planting bed on the north side will assist in providing appropriate scale to the home and existing vegetation.  The addition of a small tree on the north side of that bed will help provide balance and proportion to the overall composition.  Concise plant selections complete the revisions in the front, with drifts of perennials working in unison to compliment the home.

Phase two changes will be more severe and complex.  Re-orienting key elements are essential in improving the overall usage and experience of the backyard.  A shed that currently resides in the back of the property, directly in a critical sight line from the home, will be relocated closer to the back patio.  The new location will eliminate it as an eyesore and make it more accessible.  It will also be transformed into a multi-use facility, rather than strictly a storage shed.  An expansion of the patio will be critical in improving the value of the entertainment space.  The modified patio will include areas for grilling and eating, along with a space to socialize around a bonfire or even a movie.  A door will be added in a more centralized area of the home to ease access to the back.  Additional plantings will be added in the rear of the property to serve as a transition into the woodland that borders the property, while screening certain elements that can be seen through the trees. Plantings near the home and the patio complete the renovations, several of which will be propagated from on site in order to mitigate costs.
